DELPHINIA SEA CONSERVATION

Dolphins and whales inspire curiosity and we have a liking for them.

They are considered " intelligent " and " capable of communicating ", they naturally attract public's attention toward the Ocean and its inhabitants. From the scientific point of view, they represent important biological indicators on the health of the environment they live in.

Protecting cetaceans is equivalent to assuming a responsible behaviour towards the sea in general with the objective to protect the whole ecosystem and all its species.

Actually and despite all declarations of principle, the will to protect the sea and cetaceans is not obvious at all at the international level. Few know that the moratorium protecting big whales is constantly thrown back into question and no international protection exists for small delphinidea.
Whatever their political or economic situation, most countries consider sea as a mere resource to be exploited.

Fortunately, more and more coastal communities, sailors and tourists become aware of the quick degradation of the sea environment as well as the risks linked to the lack of long term policies regarding the management of resources.

Delphinia Sea Conservation was created in 1997 by sailors, scientists, journalists and photographs to protect the sea environment with a particular attention for cetaceans.

Both scientific and educational, it is a non-profit making organisation based in the Mediterranean (Italy) and in the Caribbean (Martinique).

Being the echo of the public who supports it, these last years Delphinia has taken on a fundamental role to give a voice to those who consider the protection of cetaceans and sea environment as a key factor for a sustainable development.
